The doctrine of “Allahu Akbar”: Rereading the order of power and the principle of divine assistance in the realm of the Resistance

“Allahu Akbar” is not merely a religious slogan; rather, it constitutes a “political-security doctrine” that has challenged the hierarchical order of power in the world. In the materialist worldview, “power” is measured through hard indicators — GDP, nuclear warheads, and political veto power. Within this order, oppressed nations are consistently defined as “small,” while superpowers are portrayed as “great.” Yet the Hajj message of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei once again called on the world to fundamentally revisit the most essential code of Islamic civilization: “Allahu Akbar.”

This phrase is not merely a chant reserved for the mosque; it is a declaration of existential independence. When a person proclaims “Allahu Akbar,” they are in fact declaring all earthly powers that claim greatness to be insignificant. This is precisely the point at which resistance begins in dismantling the psychological prestige and hegemony of the Arrogant Powers in the minds of the believers.

In the logic of “Allahu Akbar,” power inherently belongs to the infinite divine source. The Arrogant system of domination is built upon kibr — the false claim to greatness. The doctrine of “Allahu Akbar” bursts this illusion. Based on the verse, “Indeed, all power belongs entirely to Allah” (Quran 2:165), all centers of material power are rendered as nothingness before the divine will. Thus, divine assistance in the Resistance Front is not a random occurrence, but the result of the will of the struggling fighter becoming connected to the Absolute Power. Accordingly, the logic of “Allahu Akbar” can be redefined across three dimensions: epistemological, psychological, and structural.

The epistemological level (the collapse of the unipolar order of truth): In the modern world, truth and power have become intertwined. The major powers claim that reality is whatever they dictate through technology, media, and economics. When a fighter in the Resistance Front proclaims “Allahu Akbar,” he is in fact carrying out an epistemological revolution. Through this declaration, he transfers the authority of truth from powerful worldly institutions to a transcendent and absolute authority — God. As a result, the claims advanced by the great powers, such as technological superiority or self-assigned legal legitimacy, lose their credibility within the fighter’s intellectual framework. By proclaiming “Allahu Akbar,” he pierces the protective illusion of the enemy’s power:

“The weapon of Allahu Akbar granted the Iranian nation such strength and power that after the heart-rending martyrdom of our illustrious Leader – the rightful successor of the Holy Prophet (pbuh), Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei (may God elevate his noble station) at the hands of the most evil forces in the world today, that it [Iranian nation] experienced a divine bi’tha [prophetic rising up to be active on the scene] and through its all‑embracing presence in every arena where it was needed, transfixed the eyes of the world by its feats of honor.”[1]

The psychological level (managing hegemony and fear): Western policymakers are deeply familiar with the concept of hegemony — namely, that power lies not merely in the use of force itself, but in the ability to generate fear and instill a sense of inferiority in the other. The Arrogant Powers operate on this basis: portraying the enemy as weak while presenting themselves as immense, so as to shatter the enemy’s will even before the battle begins.

The logic of “Allahu Akbar” is, in essence, a form of psychological management against the hollow hegemony of the enemy. This declaration reshapes the balance within the mind of the fighter. While the enemy seeks, through media domination and displays of force, to magnify its own image, the fighter, by magnifying the true source of power — God — reduces that exaggerated image of the enemy to a hollow insignificance. In this context, divine assistance is first and foremost a psychological victory. Once the fear born of the enemy's supposed greatness disappears, the will to resist reaches its peak. This is the moment when divine assistance transforms from an abstract concept into an operational capacity for steadfastness:

“It was this weapon of Allahu Akbar that in the Third Imposed War, secured the valiant fighters and self-sacrificing Armed Forces of Islamic Iran alongside the mujahideen of the Resistance Front – especially those in beloved Lebanon – decisive victories against the two terrorist, American-Zionist armies which were armed to the teeth. By putting their trust in the Lord and by utilizing their missiles and drones across land, air and sea, they performed the rami [stoning] of the Great Satan, America, and its trained beast, the Zionist regime, witnessing firsthand the fulfillment of God’s true promise of victory for those who fight on His path.”[2]

The structural level (the transition from individual power to “absolute power”): In Western political analysis, the endurance of a movement is tied to its leadership and financial resources. If the leader is removed or the resources are cut off, the movement collapses. The logic of “Allahu Akbar,” however, gives rise to a structure that is not centered on human authority.

Within the Resistance Front, because the ultimate point of reference for the movement — God — is constant and unchanging, neither the martyrdom of a commander nor the destruction of a power center can alter the course of the movement. This is strategic independence. Rather than remaining a body bound by worldly dependencies, the Resistance Front has transformed into a network sustained through a heavenly bond. Such a structure turns divine assistance into a continuous process rather than a transient victory.

“It was this very weapon of Allahu Akbar that strengthened the bonds of connection of the Islamic Ummah and the young mujahideen of the Resistance Front – from Iran to Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq and Syria, from Africa and Yemen to Afghanistan, Pakistan and all the free nations of the world, so that this Firm Rope [habl al-matin] may rise to defend the very essence of the Islamic Ummah against the usurping Zionist aggressors, crush the agenda of Daesh [ISIS], unleash the Al-Aqsa Flood and to leave the teetering Zionist regime to gasp its final breath.”[3]

The conclusion is that “Allahu Akbar” may outwardly appear to be merely a religious chant, yet within the strategic logic of the Resistance, it functions as a power-subverting instrument. This declaration operates as an epistemological revolution against the hegemony of material giants, a psychological shield against the fabricated fear of technological superiority, and a structural stabilizer that guarantees the continuity of the movement beyond any individual leader. The weapon of “Allahu Akbar” lies precisely in this: the ultimate source of sovereignty exists beyond all human manipulation and control.

Martyr Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei emphasized in this regard that nations possessing thought, identity, motivation, and reliance upon God — nations that place their trust in Allah — will stand firm, and Almighty God will aid them:

“’If the faithless fight you, they will turn their backs [to flee]. Then they will not find any protector or helper. [It is] Allah’s precedent that has passed before, and you will never find any change in Allah’s precedent.’ (Quran 48:22‑23) This is the divine tradition.”[4]

“Allahu Akbar” gives resilience to the very meaning of the Resistance. Whereas a soldier who defines himself within a non-divine and non-monotheistic order fights in reliance upon technological superiority and, at the first technical setback, suffers a psychological collapse, the fighter on the Front of Truth advances according to the logic of: “If you help Allah, He will help you” (Quran 47:7). Within this logic, defeat itself becomes meaningless, because the very fulfillment of one’s duty is itself a form of divine assistance.

This inner nusrat [divine assistance] injects into the Resistance Front a degree of stability that no bunker-busting bomb or economic sanction can weaken. For this reason, renunciation of the Arrogant Powers [bara’at] is not merely a rhetorical or physical act; rather, it constitutes a permanent strategy. “Allahu Akbar” is structure-forming. It enables the Resistance to transcend dependency on individuals and, by transforming into a steel‑hard structure, to bring a form of strategic independence to society.

A structure founded upon “Allahu Akbar” is grounded upon the truth, not upon individuals. This is precisely why the Resistance Front today has evolved from a guerrilla movement into a regional power possessing a doctrine of its own. In this regard, the martyred Leader of the Ummah, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, stated:

“In confronting those powers that have become accustomed to threatening and coercing every nation unwilling to kneel before them, this nation is determined to stand firm, to not be intimidated, to not take their threats seriously, and to not retreat even a single step from its rightful positions, its path, and its just claims. This nation does this by relying on their own strength and capabilities, and by placing their trust in God and the commands of the Holy Quran, which instruct them to rely on God and fear no one.”[5]

In a world where international organizations remain under the domination of self-appointed great powers, “Allahu Akbar” has become the sole breathing space for independent nations — a call to return to justice. This slogan has transcended religious boundaries and has become the common language of all freedom-seekers. The divine assistance witnessed today in Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, and Palestine is the fruit of a tree whose roots are planted in the soil of political monotheism and whose branches stretch toward the heavens of Quranic dignity. This heralds the emergence of a new era in which the logic of force fades before the logic of truth. Imam Khomeini (may God be pleased with him) stated:

“Even if all the powers were to unite, they still would be unable to withstand a nation that calls out ‘Allahu Akbar’ in one voice. Their attempts to sow division are futile. Muslims are brothers and will not be divided by the malicious propaganda of certain corrupt elements. Today is the day when all Muslim communities are standing together against the satanic powers, which are seeking to destroy the very foundations of Islam. Those powers have realized that Islam is a threat to them, and that the unity of the Muslim nations is a threat to them. Today is the day when all the Muslims from every land in the world must unite.”[6]

“Allahu Akbar” is the compass of the Resistance Front, charting the direction of divine assistance. Certainly, the outcome of this confrontation will be the victory of the grateful and patient servants of God, for the divine promise is unbreachable: "And it was a must for Us to help the faithful” (Quran 30:47). The Resistance Front today is the living embodiment of this verse, and “Allahu Akbar” is the password for humanity’s passage from the dark age of arrogance to the radiant dawn of justice.
