To my dear Mostafa
For the first time, KHAMENEI.IR is publishing a letter from the martyred mujahid Leader, Martyr Imam Khamenei (may God elevate his station) to his son, Ayatollah Sayyid Mostafa Khamenei, written during Sayyid Mostafa's service on the frontlines of the Sacred Defense. The text and the handwritten original, dated July 29, 1986, are being published to mark #SacredDefenseWeek. The full text reads as follows:
In the Name of God, the Exalted
My dear Mostafa,
I hope you are well, happy, and — in that atmosphere of purity and sincerity — immersed in the remembrance on God and attentiveness to Him, while occupied with self-edification. God's grace encompasses you, as always, and God willing, you will benefit greatly from this.
I saw your letter after returning from Mashhad, which appeared to be dated the 27th of Tir (July 18th). My stay in Mashhad lasted for seven days. Half of this time was spent in intensive work, and half in rest. Your absence was felt in both parts. I took the children with me to Nishapur and Sabzevar, so they could witness the divine signs and blessings in the great, fervent gatherings of the people, while seeing the grandeur of a nation that is a droplet of God's power.
Youthhood is the season of learning and self-development. As for political matters and affiliations, take care not to fall into the snare of arguments and disputations, for it brings you neither this world nor the next. Occasionally, a word of guidance that’s without any insinuation or explicit accusations against this or that person isn’t bad, provided there is hope of it being beneficial; otherwise, no.
Invite those around you to piety, devoutness, worship, and remembering God. Of course, keep this lesson in mind, "Invite people with your actions rather than your tongues."
I entrust you to God, the Mighty, the Wise. Regarding your request for advice about studying and books, explain a little more so that, God willing, I can understand what should be done.
