In September 1987, Martyr Khamenei, then President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, addressed the United Nations General Assembly. His message was not directed at winning the approval of the world's powerful, but at making clear that a Revolution born of sacrifice could not be intimidated, and that the nation behind it had learned to stand on its own.
