Leader of the Islamic Revolution's message of condolence following Major General Gholamreza Soleimani's martyrdom
Imam Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, issued a message of condolence following the martyrdom of Major General Gholamreza Soleimani, Commander of the Basij Organization.
The following is the full text of his message:
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
“Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with God. Some of them have fulfilled their pledge [with their lives], and others are waiting [their turn], and they have never changed [their commitment] in the least” (Quran 33:23).
The grievous news of the martyrdom of Major General Gholamreza Soleimani, Head of the Basij Forces, has caused profound sorrow. This eminent figure had long been active in struggle on the path of God, and had accumulated extensive experience on this path. The assassination of this mujahid commander is a reminder of the immense importance of Basij, and the spiteful, vile enemy’s intense fear of confronting it.
I extend my condolences on this grievous loss to the honorable family of that exalted martyr, to all his colleagues in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and to all the dear members of the Basij – among whom I consider myself to be the least of them. I pray that Almighty God grants that dear soul a lofty position [in the Hereafter].
